A good intro to Mercurial 1,152

I found this introduction to the Mercurial version control system to one of the most friendly and simple approaches yet.

It’s written by Joel Spolsky with the intent to promote FogCreek’s new product Kiln.

Drop ACID and think about data 378

An interesting presentation by Bob Ipolito at PyCon 2009 about the different distributed key-value store approaches currently available. I’ts a good introductory roundup for what’s around.

Another interesting list was written by Richard Jones from Last.fm: Anti-RDBMS: A list of distributed key-value stores

“Hello World” Post 93

I’ve been meaning to start a personal weblog written in English for about a year now and this idea as matured since I arrived to work in Dublin six months ago.

I’ve been blogging actively for some time now – since 2003 – but mainly written in my native Portuguese. I’ve had humouristic blogs and technical blogs but never really got to write a generalist personal blog about stuff I care.

And what do I care about?

First of all, I love being a software engineer and it should be expected that views on technology, programming and software architecture will be a  big part of this blog. As an engineer my view of the world is often an analytical one as seen through the lenses of pragmatism.

I consider myself a humanist and assume a social democrat political view, so some positions I make might reflect exactly that.

All in all, I might write about anything I care about and try not to make this a cheesy personal blog. Instead, I want like minded people to enjoy what I have to share and contribute with their own opinions.

Thanks for your visit and don’t forget to subscribe the RSS feed.
